There is the territory of Lusatia in East Germany, where the Sorbs live.
Sorbs are the smallest Slavic race of about 60,000 people. They have lived
there for the last 1000 years. [Intermission?:

The Sorbs had to go through various problems. There was the Prussian
domination, nazis, socialists, religious divisions and mass emigrations
westwards. [Intermission?: click http://www.antiracism.info]
For survival they had to make sacrifices. They had to assimilate into the
German culture. There was conversion to Christianity. Also they had to
accept the German authority. If they had not they would not have been able
to keep some aspects of their culture. They have had to struggle to
maintain their environment due to mining and mining workers migration and
have to make hard choices of moving to other areas. Some of young people
have found that because there is little opportunity there, they have moved
out to cities. [Intermission?:

Even with not having there own schools, being dominated by the Church,
landowners and state they have always been loyal to their
culture. [Intermission?: click http://www.antiracism.info]
Nowadays, they still maintain their cultures. They wear fanciful colorful
costumes. Knowledge is passed by the parents to their children. Regularly
they follow their festivals where they perform dances, sing and tell
stories. [Intermission?:

With their fellow majority inhabitants there are hardly any breaches of
peace because there are so few of them. In order to develop and maintain
their culture they have programs to teach their own language. This is also
to grow the number of their language speakers. Some parents are teaching
their kids only Sorb language. Though there is very little funding by the
government they have their own literatures and publications, television
programs and organizations. [Intermission?: click http://www.antiracism.info]
